Hi,

The last couple of days I am working with DOA 4.0, trying stuff out and I much say you guys made a amazing product. But I have a question about how the security is implementated in DOA 4.0, can you provide a sample that covers the security with the new product? Maybe I missed it, so if there is already information available please provide me a link.

Kind regards, Martijn

Ok, thanks for the information.

Still I have some questions, will it be easy to extended existing database models with security, full-text indexing and search? Am currently working on a hardware/software registration program. DOA4.0 seems to fit my requirements the best due to linq support and full .NET 3.5 support.

I don't need security right away, maybe for futher releases of my program. But Full-text indexing and search will be something that I want to support in my program from the beginning. Can you provide some more information regarding these two extensions? I scheduled my program to be releases first quarter of 2010 will be most extensions be implemented by then? What do you recommend that I do wait for DOA4.0 and implement Full-text indexing, search and security when they come available or work with DAO3.9.5...??

Kind regards, Martijn

Unlike DO 3.x we decided not to implement built-in security system in DO 4. We plan to implement fully independent security extension, that will contain full-featured access control and membership model and can be used in any application, based on DataObjects.Net. It will likely include security-related aspects (powered by PostSharp), that will make this extension really easy-to-use.

We expect security extension to be ready in a few months.

Concerning FTS: I just described what will be offered initially. Please see:

Further we'll integrate this into our LINQ query technology as well.

"Few" seems a bit optimistic. I'd say in September, if we won't re-prioritize it. Full-text indexing and search and a set of other extensions are scheduled before this.

Concerning what to use: in this case v4.0 is definitely preferable. I hope FTS will be working by the end of Summer.

Any update on this?

Unfortunately, there is no news on the subject as the entire team is concentrated mainly on .NET 4.0 migration & licensing implementation.
