Version fields not in hierarchy root types

Xtensive.Storage.DomainBuilderException : Type 'ReferenceBase' can't contain Version fields, because it is not a hierarchy root type. Why??

Is it an abstract base type that doesn't belong to any hierarchy?

If so, the issue really must be fixed.
